The city councils of Madrid, Pamplona and Murcia together with the council of Gran Canaria and the provincial councils of Barcelona and A Coruña are the local entities that have been awarded a total of 24.8 million euros corresponding to the Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Spain Audiovisual Hub. The final resolution of the call managed by the public entity Red.es has been made public today by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.

The aid will be allocated to the implementation of local infrastructures for the audiovisual sector, including the creation of audiovisual production centres, the implementation of co-working spaces for the design and development of video games and creative industries laboratories, and consultancy services for SMEs, among others. The winning entities undertake to co-finance the projects with local public resources and to have the support of SMEs in the region, as established in the rules governing the call for proposals.

120 local SMEs will benefit from the Europes funds of the Recovery Plan through the direct operation of the infrastructures or through the concession calls promoted by the beneficiary local entities to companies interested in providing the service for all the SMEs in the sector.

Among the proposed beneficiary projects are the Video Game Campus in Madrid, the new Audiovisual and Video Game Hub in Murcia and the Laboratory for Creative Industries in Pamplona. In the case of Gran Canaria, it is the “Digital Crea Gran Canaria” project, oriented towards Extended Reality and immersive content. As for the two beneficiary councils, the A Coruña project is aimed at setting up a production studio that incorporates emerging technologies for virtual production, while the Barcelona project focuses on the creation of a multi-device ‘Over The Top’ platform for local communication through the XAL (Xarxa Audiovisual Local) that will give local broadcasters access to a content platform that will include the signal of national DTT operators and incorporate thematic channels.
