  • The Malaga Film Festival is coming up

The 25th Malaga Festival from 18-27 March is getting closer and closer.

We hope to be able to tell you news from us very soon but we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Today we announce that the call for Spanish Screenings 2022, the official marketplace for the sale and promotion of Spanish cinema, is now open.

MAFIZ, the industry area of the Malaga Festival, is hosting this event from 21 to 24 March, with a new expanded format and new content.

The Malaga Festival has opened the call for the next edition of Spanish Screenings, an event designed as an international promotional platform whose main objective is to encourage sales of Spanish cinema. Spanish Screenings, which reaches its 16th edition in 2022, is the only official market for the sale and promotion of Spanish cinema and has the collaboration of the ICAA (Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales) and ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones and the support of sales agents and producers’ associations in Spain.

In this edition, thanks to the Government’s budgetary boost, this event adopts a new format to become ‘Spanish Screenings XXL. An international market for Spanish audiovisual production’. The project is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which allocates a total of 200 million euros to strengthen Spain’s role as an audiovisual hub in Europe.

The first event of these Spanish Screenings XXL is Spanish Screenings Content and will take place within the framework of the Malaga Festival from the 21st to the 24th of March, for the sixth consecutive year within the MAFIZ (Malaga Festival Industry Zone) industry area. With this new format, the Malaga Festival aims to achieve its objectives through various lines of work, such as achieving greater diversity in content (film, series, new online and offline formats), as well as with new sections.

objectives:

– To increase the variety of participating profiles: pay platforms, televisions, digital creator platforms, programmers, film festivals, international producers, international press.

– To increase the promotion, information and dissemination of our cinema 365 days a year.

– Increase and improve the spaces for screenings and activities.

– Reinforce the Spanish Screenings brand through itinerant actions aimed at the sale and promotion of Spanish cinema in territories where Spanish film culture is not well established.

– In line with the business philosophy of the Malaga Festival, to make the event as sustainable as possible. To this end, we will calculate the carbon footprint of the event, based on an analysis of the emissions produced by the organisation of Spanish Screenings in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible and apply the compensation measures required to achieve a carbon neutral event.
