On the occasion of the 5th edition of the Malaga Film Festival’s Advertising Film Production Activities, we spoke to the renowned director, actress and publicist.

  • We know that your projects tend to focus on comedy and humour. But, when you are going to make a film, what is the creative process like? When you write the script, are you already imagining how to shoot it or is it a purely literary exercise? What do you usually draw inspiration from?

For me it’s impossible to read a script or write it without imagining the shots and the staging, it even happens to me when I read a book….

Then when I’m working on each sequence I expand what I’ve already imagined and give it more shape.

My inspiration comes from any artistic form: photography, painting, dance and, of course, audiovisuals.

  • As a director, you also shoot a lot of advertising. How do you feel shooting commercials?

When you shoot a spot, you are at the service of the agency’s creativity and the client’s needs. It’s a very interesting creative exercise because your ultimate task is to realise a vision.

  • Now that we have started the year, do you have any new project(s) you are working on or have in mind?

I can’t talk about it but I have a project that I hope will crystallise – keep your fingers crossed for me!

  • Do you think there has been much evolution in our industry since you started?

I think we have experienced a paradigm shift in everything concerning audiovisual, from advertising to cinema because of the internet; because of social networks and platforms. This has meant that we all have to adapt to this new form of communication. I find everything that involves innovation and evolution very interesting.

  • What would you say to young people who want to be part of the audiovisual world?

Let them start making things, short films, webseries, YouTube channels… Learning is in the creation.
