We are not just advertising: The short film Tormenta de verano, by Laura García Alonso and produced by Agosto, selected in the Official Selection of the Málaga Festival.

The short film Tormenta de verano, a Distinto Films and Agosto production, after premiering at the Valladolid SEMINCI, travels to the 25th Malaga Festival to compete in the Official Short Film Section.

Directed by Laura García Alonso and starring Àlex Monner (La Ruta) and Lola Dueñas (Volver, Viaje al cuarto de una madre), it explores the director’s feelings in relation to mental illness in the family environment: How does one assume the role of caregiver? What are the limits between trust and invasion? How does one learn to let go? In the words of the director: “It is difficult to understand mental illness. It reminds me of the weather, changing at the mercy of something we don’t quite understand, fascinating but also terrifying”.

Tormenta de verano is the story of a mother dealing with mental illness and a son searching for ways to understand and love her better. It is a look at maternal-filial love.

Laura García Alonso (Madrid, 1990), an ESCAC graduate, began working as an assistant director on productions by Pedro Almodóvar and Ridley Scott. Her first short film, “Alex”, was selected for the San Sebastian Festival, MECAL, ALCINE and nominated for the Gaudí Awards of the Catalan Film Academy. Her second short film, “Tormenta de verano”, has already been presented at SEMINCI and ALCINE. She is currently working as an advertising director and as a teacher at ESCAC. At the same time, she is developing her first film as a director.

Àlex Monner, winner of a Gaudí Award in 2013 for his leading role in Los niños salvajes, and nominated for the Feroz, Forqué and Gaudí Awards for his work in La próxima piel (2016, Isa Campo, Isaki Lacuesta). She has recently worked on the Atresmedia series La Ruta (2022, Borja Soler, Belen Funes).

Lola Dueñas, a two-time Goya Award winner, has worked in films such as Mar adentro (2004, Alejandro Amenábar), Zama (2017, Lucrecia Martel), Viaje al cuarto de una madre (2018, Celia Rico) and Volver (2006, Perdo Almodóvar).
