In a day led by Bibiana Medialdea, substitute of the Secretary General of Consumer Affairs and Gaming, a round table on sustainable communication took place. This brought together leading personalities from the legal, business and consumer fields, including: Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Alba Nogueira; the Director General of Consumer Affairs, Daniel Arribas González; Aurelio del Pino, member of the Commission for Competitiveness, Trade and Consumer Affairs of the CEOE; and Paz Serra Portilla, Head of Projects at the Confederation of Consumers and Users (CECU).
One of the central points of the discussion was the concept of “greenwashing”, where companies use misleading marketing tactics to pretend an environmental commitment that in reality does not exist. The Sustainable Communication Guide presented at the meeting is a key tool in this context. Accessible and didactic reading. With a focus on transparency and verifiability of information, the guide seeks to guide companies towards more responsible and ethical practices in their communication with consumers.
Among the highlights of the guide is the mandatory inclusion of a repairability index in products such as household appliances and electronic devices, as well as the promotion of designs that favor the durability and repairability of products.
In addition, the importance of avoiding misleading claims by providing truthful information on the environmental impact of products is emphasized.
In short, this meeting is a call to action for companies to assume their responsibility in promoting sustainable communication, in line with the demands of a society increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of their consumption decisions.
The publicly available guide is an invaluable resource to guide this shift towards more transparent and responsible practices in the marketplace.
