Team Works: “The foreign producer is not a “client”, he is our “Producer”

In this interview, we will infiltrate the incredible history of Team Works Production Services. Since it was founded three decades ago, Team Works has been molding itself into the creative landscape. Early on, it focused on television spots and photography. Later, it started with fiction and music videos.

In recent years, it has developed a close collaboration with Amazon, working for Brazil, Mexico and Spain, and in 2023 has started an international fiction project for Netflix.

Team Works is a service company and provides coverage to other production companies that are out of their “comfort zone”.

What common points are there in the projects in which Team Works is present?

We can’t say that there is much in common, because each project is special, different. We are not a “factory”, we identify ourselves more with what today is called “boutique”, in the sense of adjusting production to each specific project.

It is true that we distinguish two large groups in our projects, those that need to be done in Spain (mainly soccer players), and those that come from the variety of locations we have in Spain, those would be common points.

What values do you want to transmit in each of the projects?

There the answer is clear: security and long-term relationship. Security for foreign producers, to whom we expose the reality of the budgets from the beginning, so that instead of suffering extra costs during production, they can understand what the project really costs from the beginning. They can then decide in which areas to look for more economical solutions, knowing what is involved.

Long-term relationship, which is built on each project, communicating problems immediately to find solutions together, being transparent at all times, which helps the producer to feel that we are really their team in Spain, not just a supplier.

On your website you highlight a series of rules that you say are “yours”: transparency, flexibility, integrity… Which of these do you consider essential in the world of production?

To repeat the answer, transparency and teamwork with the foreign producer. For us, the foreign producer is not a “client”, he is our “Producer”, and as such we provide him with the tools to be able to decide what is best for his project.

You have collaborated with Prime Video, Uber Eats, Rexona, Ducati… Being Production Service, what do you consider Team Works’ work to be essential when collaborating with such important brands?

We start from a solid base of years of experience, and that is reflected in our budgets, in the sense of foreseeing all possible scenarios or needs that may arise. On many occasions, producers choose other more economical production companies, but these clients are looking for security. That means anticipating issues that clients don’t need to know about, taking care of details so that the production runs smoothly, with the assurance that their local team is on top of everything. From legal aspects, such as contracts for foreign technicians or insurance, to specific logistics for celebrities.

You operate in Spain and Portugal, when it comes to your work, what do you highlight from each of them?

Portugal offers greater facilities for many aspects of production, such as permits for minors, coastline, hiring technicians… Spain has a greater variety of locations, and production centers in several cities that allow working locally, while going to Oporto or the Algarve in Portugal, involves travel expenses for the whole team.
