The Banco de Alimentos de Madrid (Madrid’s Food Bank) is a non-profit charitable organisation whose aim is to obtain food free of charge in order to distribute it (also free of charge) amongst charities dedicated to the assistance and direct care of people in need within the Community of Madrid.
Thanks to the volunteers, the Banco de Alimentos is able to organise the Big Food Collection.
The aim is to collect the equivalent of 3 million kilos of basic foodstuffs to continue providing food security with a daily meal to more than 180,000 people in the Community of Madrid. “It is difficult, but we are sure we will achieve it”.
Being a volunteer at the Banco de Alimentos de Madrid means that with your work, with your 4 hours of dedication, you will be able to help the more than 182,000 people who are currently experiencing serious difficulties in obtaining food.
This year the Big Food Collection will have a mixed format: physical collection of food and donation in a box.
– Donations of basic foodstuffs can be collected from the 25th to the 27th of November.
– A monetary donation can be made at the cash register from the 25th of November to the 6th of December.
– An online donation can also be made at www.bamadrid.org from the 25th of November to the 25th of December.
YOU CAN DONATE:
- In your usual shop from the 25th of November to the 6th of December:
- Physical food: physical food donations can be made in most shops. Find out more.
- A financial contribution to be exchanged for basic foodstuffs that are needed. More information here.
Online donation: from the 25th of November to the 25th of December you can make online donations that we will use entirely for the purchase of food needed at source.
In Catalonia, it will be the 14th edition of the Gran Recapte d’Aliments, one of the most important solidarity campaigns held in Catalonia, which will take place between 25 November and 6 December. The great novelty this year will be the return of the physical collection of food with the presence of volunteers in the establishments, which will be present on 25 and 26 November.
The Gran Recapte will be a mixed format, with physical and monetary donations taking place at the same time. Each of the distribution chains has opted for one or other format. It is an essential solidarity campaign to be able to guarantee a regular and sustained distribution of basic products over time. The 3.6 million euros raised during the last edition of the campaign made it possible to purchase foodstuffs such as oil, milk and tinned food, but also foodstuffs of high nutritional value such as fish, meat and eggs.
With the return of the physical collection, volunteers are once again a key factor, being present at 1,800 collection points throughout the country. Without the volunteers, the Gran Recapte would not be feasible, which is why the four Catalan Food Banks are once again appealing to the public to collaborate once again and make this campaign possible. The website www.granrecapte.com is now up and running and interested people can register to volunteer and coordinate tasks. The number of volunteers needed for this year’s edition will be 18,000 people.
