Leaders of the Spanish audiovisual sector and government authorities highlight the positive effect of the Hub on global expansion and the industry’s development in Spain.

Within the framework of the European Film Market at Berlinale, Spain has been recognized as a focus country, highlighting the success of the Spain Audiovisual Hub. This public-private initiative, led by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration and funded by the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, has established Spain as a global benchmark in the audiovisual sector. Since its launch in 2021, the Hub has driven investment, production, and the attraction of international talent, as evidenced by a 37% increase in film productions over the past year, surpassing 375 productions in 2023.

Additionally, the revenue of the Spanish audiovisual sector grew from €251 million in 2021 to €487 million in 2023, while the video game industry experienced a 16.3% increase. This growth is also reflected in employment, which rose by 95.62% between 2020 and 2023.

During a roundtable discussion in Berlin, industry professionals and government representatives highlighted success stories that showcase the diversity and strong performance of Spain’s audiovisual sector:

  • Atresmedia Cine: Jaime Ortiz de Artiñano, General Director of Atresmedia Cine, emphasized the company’s collaborative model with various production partners, underscoring its role as a driving force in Spain’s audiovisual industry.

  • Ciudad de la Luz: This film complex in Alicante closed 2024 with 14 productions, generating an economic impact of over €60 million and more than 30,000 overnight stays, strengthening the local economy.

  • Coruña Estudio Inmersivo (CEI): Located in Galicia, CEI is Spain’s largest virtual production studio, funded by the Provincial Council of A Coruña and the Spanish Government’s Recovery Plan with a €9 million investment. This center offers advanced immersive technology and aims to modernize and professionalize the Galician audiovisual sector, fostering job creation and retaining local talent.

These are just three of the many success stories reinforcing Spain’s position as an attractive hub for investment and content creation.
