Our sponsor Bestours warns: Coronation of King Charles III and strikes at UK airports.

By May 5, 2023 News No Comments

The coronation ceremony for King Charles III will take place on 6 May at Westminster Abbey from 11am and will be attended by world leaders, international royal families and politicians.

Numerous parts of central London will be subject to road closures over the weekend of 5-8 May. Police have advised against driving in the city centre. Areas in and around Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, St James’s Park, The Green Park and Trafalgar Square will be very busy. National Rail and London Underground stations in these areas will be very busy. So expect large crowds and disruption to services and transport across London.

Travellers are advised to confirm travel bookings, including for rail, bus and private vehicles, with their travel agent before leaving their hotels.

In addition, some 1,400 security staff at Heathrow Airport will be on strike during 4-6 May, 9-10 May and 25-27 May, with disruption and unavoidable delays expected for passengers arriving for the King’s coronation.

Meanwhile, Passport Office staff across the UK, including those working in Passport offices in England, Scotland and Wales, are preparing to go on strike from 2-6 May. The strike will involve those working in Durham, Glasgow, Liverpool, London Newport, Peterborough and Southport.
