MAMMA TEAM PRODUCES THE FEATURE FILM RICH FLU AND MAKES ITS WORLD PREMIERE IN SITGES

The film ‘Rich Flu’, produced by APCP member Mamma Team, in co-production with Nostromo, Basque Films and Fábula, directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, has been selected in the Official Fantàstic A Competició Section (SOFC) at the renowned Sitges Film Festival, and this Sunday, October 6th, it will finally see the light of day before the public, a date to be remembered!

In addition, the theatrical release of Rich Flu (provisional title) is planned for 24 January 2025, after its participation in the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.

The film, directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, alongside Rafe Spall, Timothy Spall, Jonah Hauer-King, and the iconic Lorraine Bracco. Billed as a thriller/mystery, the plot synopsis tells of a strange and unexpected disease that is taking the lives of the world’s wealthiest and most influential people. First the billionaires die, then the millionaires, and so on. The pandemic threatens to overtake anyone with a fortune of any kind. No one knows where the limit is. At first, the masses cheerfully celebrate the demise of the great fortunes, but as the collapse of their economic empires affects the stock market, employment and economic stability, chaos grips the First World.

As he did in El Hoyo, with a raw and ironic tone, Gaztelu-Urrutia once again confronts us with the growing debate on the great social and class differences. When a dangerous virus begins to affect the wealthiest classes, the richest people in the world begin to fall, changing the established social order and generating global chaos.

For Galder, ‘Over the last twenty years, the number of billionaires has increased fivefold. From an early age we are told that by studying and working hard we can climb the social ladder and find a comfortable position. Our entire society values individual success as the ultimate goal, even when it involves insane competitiveness without the slightest empathy. Rich Flu is a dark fable for our times. It is a social satire, at once funny and tragic, that presents us with the almost inconceivable tasks: parting with all our possessions, bank accounts and giving up all our worldly goods to flee the strangest of epidemics.’
