  1. First meeting of 2022 of Green The Bid

In the context of Environmental Education Day our friends and supporters of Green The Bid held their first meeting of 2022 with their ambassadors spanning many time zones and countries. They had Chad Frischmann, Senior Director of Project Drawdown as a guest speaker.

Green The Bid is a grassroots initiative and community created to help the advertising industry shift to zero waste, carbon neutral, sustainable and regenerative practices.

A coalition of the willing, led by its founding members and stakeholders from the business community (brands, agencies, production companies, post-production facilities, suppliers, and affiliates) who are committed to joining in this important effort.

Green The Bid is your partner for sustainable productions. They have created the framework for the adoption of industry-wide green practices. And in this way help the sector to implement this system of work so necessary to care for and protect our planet.

We look forward to working with you again this year and creating a much more sustainable industry.

  1. Green Film Lab, the new sustainable filming training course

Torino Film Lab presents the new Green Film Lab program, which aims to train European film professionals on sustainable practices in film production, on how to apply a green protocol and obtain a certificate. The deadline for applications for the 1st workshop is till March 2022.

Throughout the year, Green Film Lab proposes a series of 3-day workshops held in different European countries and regions, in partnership with multiple institutions, aimed at film industry professionals with or without a project, as well as green managers.

Each one begins with a general introduction to sustainability in the film industry, afterwards the participants are divided into two groups, each one working on the sustainability plans of three projects. Each project team will be combined with a green manager and a producer without a project.

Throughout the workshop, the groups work on a sustainability plan, arriving at their first version to share with their fellow participants on the last day. The training course will be enriched by international experts and sessions specifically dedicated to the different categories of professionals (DoP, set designer, green manager…), as well as some plenary sessions about different aspects of sustainability.

The residential workshop is followed by an online follow-up meeting scheduled when the teams start with the production, to discuss and check the final sustainability plan.

The contents are based on the Green Film Rating System and its two main features: the sustainability plan and the certification process for audiovisual projects. A certification represents the possibility for producers to have their efforts recognised in a tangible way and Green Film enables the certification of sustainable audiovisual projects in all European countries, including co-productions involving filming in different countries.

The first workshop will take place in Trento from April 29th to 1st May 2022 (to be confirmed), applications to participate can be submitted until March 25th.

During the year, Green Film Lab will propose 2 more workshops with a specific call to be opened in the coming months: the second workshop will take place on the 29th and 31st of July 2022 in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), thanks to the collaboration of the Mallorca Film Commission, Fundación Mallorca Turismo and Consell Insular de Mallorca ; while the third workshop will take place from October 14th to 16th 2022 in Sitges (Spain), in collaboration with the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises (ICEC), the Catalonia Film Commission and the Business Development Service (SDE).

It is aimed at film professionals who want to:

– Acquire skills on how to apply the best current practices in environmental sustainability by working on specific projects and sustainability plans.

– Know how to apply a common protocol and a shared certification system across European borders that will facilitate their co-productions, easy to use and already tested by different film and TV productions.

– Enhance their professional profiles, as sustainable productions will be increasingly required by public institutions and funds in the coming years.

– Deepen their knowledge on how to manage their sets to combine sustainability with financial and organisational efficiency.

Green maagers willing to receive intensive training on the mechanisms of the audiovisual industry and learn how to apply their sustainability skills on film sets, working closely with film producers.
