At the end of the month of the full color flag, to say goodbye we want to ask you: Do you remember the last Heroes de campaign, awarded with a silver lion at the last edition of Cannes?
Relax, don’t strain your brain cells, we’ll refresh your memory.
With an impeccable cinematographic and creative invoice, the piece produced by the APCP’s production company, Garlic, and created by DDB Spain, denounces the story of Julio Zúñiga, a Mexican gay activist and soccer player in an LGTBI + league
Zúñiga was never at the Stonewall riots, nor was he at the shooting of “Intolerance is still there”, as he was murdered in Mexico in 2017. He was a victim of a hate crime because of his sexual condition, but, thanks to innovative face replacement and 3D technology, this film “brings him back to life” to remind us all that intolerance is still with us 50 years later.
Bringing together past and present, the content of this piece becomes a powerful message denouncing the latent discrimination in today’s society and forces the viewer to reflect on the need to transform the future thanks to fundamental values such as tolerance and equality.
In 2019, “Racism is still there” was the first content released by the platform. On that occasion, the film starred Jesse Owens, one of the 18 African-American athletes who competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The piece showed his experiences during his journey to the mythical Olympic Stadium, reflecting the racial discrimination that existed at the time and that unfortunately still remains in sport today.
This time the focus is not on racism but on discrimination against the LGTBI collective, and the setting is the Stonewall riots that started the Pride struggle.
Héroes de Hoy (“Heroes from today”) continues its commitment to provoke reflection through the production and dissemination of entertainment content. All of its pieces tell the stories of real heroes who fight to eradicate intolerance and discrimination, still latent in society.
We won’t tell you more, only that the fight is built day by day, working for a place where equality and respect are intrinsic values of society.
