This year marks the sixth edition of the Gerety Awards, the creative festival named in honor of Frances Gerety, the copywriter who in 1948 coined the slogan “A diamond is forever”, which was born with the conviction of celebrating the unique and powerful perspective of women in the industry.
The goal is to demonstrate, unlike other festivals, which campaigns connect the most with the female audience, as well as to showcase the immense female talent in our industry and the importance of the female gaze on advertising considering that women are responsible for 80% of purchasing decisions.
The Gerety Awards were born in 2019, when the advertising industry (and other sectors as well) was timidly starting to wonder where women were in the juries of festivals and in high creative decision-making positions. All kinds of campaigns can participate, not only those created by and for women, creative work is appreciated regardless of the gender of the person who creates it, what is judged is the creative idea and its execution.
When the idea first came up and the organizers were talking to people in the industry, many of them doubted they would find enough women to make a jury…which, in light of the more than 900 professionals who have passed through the jury to date, proves that there is plenty of talent in the industry to give a voice to.
Since its inception, Gerety has included hundreds of leaders in its juries held around the world. This year is no exception with a jury that includes more than 200 participants from 47 different countries, with sessions in 15 venues, one of which is Madrid for the third time.
In addition to defining the shortlist, each executive jury chooses the Agency and Production Company of the Year in their country from among the entries in the Portfolio Cut category. To participate in the Portfolio CUT, a reel of no more than 5 minutes must be submitted with up to 3 campaigns produced in the last year. In 2023 Mamma Team was the producer rewarded with this award in Spain, and they were invited to comment on their campaigns in a Gerety Talk, the interview format created to showcase the talent behind the jury and the winners of the festival, which already has more than 70 episodes.
The jury also represents the diversity of the industry, with different profiles from the creative industries: planners, strategists, creatives, directors, artists, directors, producers, marketers, both from agencies and production companies and advertisers, have passed through the jury, many of which have been invited by other festivals.
Gerety Awards was invited by the APCP on two occasions to participate in the days of Advertising Film Production with some representatives of its jury and hopes once again this year to reward the best creative work of Spanish production companies, “a work like diamonds, one that lasts over time, that is remembered, that impacts.”
