he Closing Gala of the 5th Madrid Films by Women Festival, took place at the Palacio de la Prensa in Madrid, presented by the journalist Sol Alonso. The event was attended by numerous film directors, actresses, actors and prominent authorities.
During the evening, the festival co-directors presented the 2022 Best Spanish Film Award to Alauda Ruiz de Azúa for her feature film Cinco Lobitos (Lullaby), which participated in the Spanish Authors Competition at Madrid Films by Women Festival 5th edition. The prize consists €3,000 in film equipment rental discounts courtesy of the company RC Service and a mobile phone, model 12 Lite, courtesy of Xiaomi Iberia.
The Best Spanish Film award to Cinco Lobitos (Lullaby) was granted by a jury made up of the journalists Marta Pedraza, Mariasun Miguel and Anna Maccanuco, members of the Blogos de Oro Awards Association, for “the film’s ability to make a vivid portrait of maternity and family ties from a tangible and emotional honesty. A piece of life within life, in a time – the present – of redefinition of roles, in which what never changes is the matrix source of affections”.
Later on, the Argentine director Ana Katz and the director Víctor García León, members of the Jury of the International Competition, together with the actress Irene Escolar, presented the 2022 Madrid Films by Women Festival’s Best Film Award. It consists of color correction in 4K for 3 weeks in the Místika digital cinema room of Free Your Mind, valued at €30,000, for the next feature film by the winning director; the creation of a DCP in the original version with Spanish subtitles by the company Subtitula’m, valued at €1,000; and a mobile phone, model 12 Lite, courtesy of Xiaomi Iberia.
The prize was awarded to the Mexican film Estación Catorce by Diana Cardozo “for her gaze as sensitive as it is honest, when it comes to portraying a raw and current reality. All the interpretations are precise and moving in an intimate mise en scene that, at the same time, dazzles”. The director, who attended the festival thanks to the collaboration of the Centro de Estudios Mexicanos UNAM-España and the Fundación Casa de México en España, received the award from the jury during the Closing Gala and thanked such recognition with some moving words.
