The European Commission accelerates the adoption of artificial intelligence with a joint investment of over 500 million euros

The European Union has announced a decisive new step in its digital strategy: the expansion of its artificial intelligence factory network with the incorporation of six new facilities, one of them in Spain. With this expansion, the European ecosystem already reaches 19 AI factories distributed across 16 member states, reinforcing its technological leadership and its commitment to an infrastructure capable of competing on a global scale.

The new factories—located in Czechia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, and Poland—will offer startups, SMEs, and industrial companies direct access to supercomputers optimized for AI, as well as technical support and specialized guidance to develop and deploy advanced solutions. The objective: to democratize technology and accelerate its adoption in strategic sectors.

The initiative has over 500 million euros in joint investments between the European Union and member states, as part of a third wave that significantly increases high-performance computing capacity in Europe. In total, the EU and the countries participating in EuroHPC have committed over 2.6 billion euros to the development of the AI factory and antenna network.

In parallel, the European Commission will soon announce the selection of national antennas, which will work closely with the factories to ensure secure and efficient remote access to top-level supercomputing.

This deployment is framed within the “AI Continent” Action Plan, complementing the investment in future AI gigafactories, large-scale facilities dedicated to the development of advanced models and cutting-edge systems. The joint effort is part of the European strategy to accelerate the adoption of AI across the economy and the public sector, driving innovation, competitiveness, and technological autonomy.
