APCP Festival. A small favour: Let’s talk about series!

In the round table on cinema, fiction and advertising, all about ‘La vida breve’ with Cristóbal Garrido, Diego Nuñez Irigoyen, Paco Almazo. Moderated by Luna Esquerdo.

Near the end of the first day of the Jornadas de Producción de Cine Publicitario, we will have the chance to know in depth all the details of the original series of Movistar Plus+: ‘La vida breve’, a comedy created by Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor about the shortest reign in the history of Spain.

This is a period series about the life of Louis I, son of Philip V, who has been the country’s most unknown monarch and shortest reigning monarch. The production recreates the surprising events that took place in his life: his brief reign, his brief marriage, and even his brief life. The whole story, told in the tone of a comedy with the tension of the conspiracies at court.

The series is made up of 6 chapters of 30 minutes each, created by Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor (‘Reyes de la noche’, ‘Días mejores’, ‘Fariña’, ‘Eres tú’, ‘Amor de madre’ and ‘Lo dejo cuando quiera’), is directed by Diego Núñez Irigoyen (‘División Palermo’) and Adolfo Valor. The cast, in the leading roles, includes Javier Gutiérrez, Leonor Watling, Carlos Scholz and Alicia Armenteros. ‘La vida breve’ is a Movistar Plus+ original series in collaboration with Zeta Studios. It is distributed by Movistar Plus+ International. It also has a Sustainability Plan defined for the pre-production, shooting and post-production phases.

Cristóbal Garrido

Creator and scriptwriter of the series

Film and television scriptwriter. Together with Adolfo Valor, he has written the comedies ‘Lo dejo cuando quiera’, ‘Amor de Madre’, ‘Eres tú’ and ‘Promoción Fantasma’. In television he has been the creator and executive producer of the series ‘Reyes de la Noche’, ‘Días Mejores’ and ‘La Vida Breve’; as well as script coordinator for series such as ‘Fariña’, ‘Velvet’ and ‘Bajo Sospecha’. 

 

Diego Nuñez Irigoyen

Director of the series

He is currently finishing the series La Vida Breve, created by Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor, which is scheduled to premiere in 2025 on the Movistar platform. He studied Film at the Universidad del Cine and Literature at the Universidad de Buenos Aires.Together with Santiago Korovsky, he directed the series División Palermo, nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Best International Comedy.In addition, the series has received several awards, including 7 Condor Awards (awarded by the Argentinean Film Critics Association), including Best Direction and Best Series, as well as the Sur Award for Best Comedy by the Argentinean Film Academy.
As a commercial director, he has won awards at the world’s most prestigious festivals. He has won more than 20 Lions at the Cannes Lions Festival, as well as Golds at the Clio, D&AD, Wave, FIAP, and the Grand Prix at the Sol de San Sebastián. He was named Best Director in Iberoamerica and Best Director in Argentina at the El Ojo de Iberoamerica Festival.

Paco Almazo

Movistar+ Production Manager

He is currently part of the Original Fiction Production team at Movistar Plus+, as Head of Production.He holds a degree in Law from the University of Seville (1995/1999) and in Audiovisual Communication from the London College of Communication, University of Arts London (2000/2004).Since 2005 he has worked on multiple fiction projects as Head and/or Production Manager, including La isla Mínima (2014) and La Peste in its two seasons (2017 and 2019) both projects by Alberto Rodríguez; the series Días Mejores (2022) by creators Adolfo Valor and Cristóbal Garrido; Eres tú (2023) by Alauda Ruiz de Azua.

Luna Esquerdo

Executive Producer and Partner of Bambina

She is currently developing her first fiction projects at Bambina.Her professional career began in 2001 in the production company Got Film and during these years she has had the opportunity to work in top advertising production companies such as RCR Films, CANADA or Primo.He has also managed campaigns for national and international clients such as SEAT, VW, El Corte Inglés and Puig, among many others. In January 2021 she founded the production company Bambina with Javier Ruiz Caldera, with whom she has worked for Tarradellas, Atlético de Madrid, Pikolin and Damm. Specialising in acting and storytelling, she has worked with directors such as Alberto Rodriguez, Gabe Ibáñez, Elena Martín Gimeno, Alex Sardà and Dani de la Orden, among others. In addition, Luna directs the master’s degree specialising in advertising, video clips and fashion films taught at ESCAC.Some of the campaigns in which he has played a prominent role have won important national and international awards such as the CdeC, the Sol, the Ojo de Iberoamérica, Cannes or Cíclope.He has also been a jury member at some of these festivals. In 2022 he produced the short film Cemento y Acero, a piece that has had an outstanding trajectory, being a candidate for the Goya 2023.
