- The 5th edition of the Festival Cine por Mujeres acknowledges the value of cinematography in the Netherland
Every year during the Festival de Cine por Mujeres, a guest country receives the honour of being the main protagonist of the Focus section. This 2022 is time to appreciate and highlight the films made by women in the Netherlands.
Being the 5th edition of the Festival, it is a perfect occasion to connect the perspective of the dutch directors with the Spanish audience, gathering important personalities that value international talent.
Furthermore, the European country has a big chance at winning, since it has an audiovisual industry in which women are more present by the day. Thanks to the recognition of directors like Marleen Gorris, events like the one in Rotterdam and the IDFA are held.
Thus, this 27th of October, during the Focus section, we will enjoy the presence of the following guest directors: Heddy Honigmann, Urszula Antoniak, Aliona van der Horst, Karin Unger, Halina Reijn and Gioia Smid. They will show their projects and talk about the details of each of them.
The new programme has 7 titles that have not been commercially released in Spain, which we will have the possibility of enjoying in the Academia de Cine y Cineteca de Madrid. The films are: Heddy Honigmann’s ‘There Is No Path’ (which will be the opening screening as a tribute for his recent passing away); Urszula Antoniak’s ‘Magic Mountainsy Splendid Isolation’; Aliona van der Horst’s ‘Turn Your Body to the Sun’; Karin Unger’s ‘Ten Songs for Charity’; Halina Reijn’s ‘Instinct’; Gioia Smid’s ‘Pim & Pom: The Big Adventure’This programme has been created with the help from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Madrid, as well as in collaboration with the SEE NL (an entity that promotes the visibility of Duch movies in the international market).
But wait, there is more! Besides the aforementioned directors, many female professionals from the Netherlands working in the audiovisual industry will be participating in round tables for this edition. For example, we will have the opportunity to listen to Esther Bannengerg (Producer, Distributor and Adviser), and Margje de Koning (Art Director of the Movies that Matter festival) at the Auditorio del Espacio Fundación Telefónica.
