APCP Festival: Jesús Carmona, the ideal prologue to the APCP Awards

The Ateneo Theater alongside FIGHT is immersed in an atmosphere where dance takes on words under the talent of the artist, choreographer, and interpreter.

Sometimes, amidst talks, data, industry, negotiation, and strategy, something happens that puts everything back in its place: emotion. That is what happened with the performance of Jesús Carmona at the XIII APCP Workshop.

The show Some Story and a Truth was a piece created especially for this meeting. Jesús Carmona —National Dance Award 2020, Benois de la Danse 2021 and international reference— took the stage and silence marked the beginning of the presentation. A silence that lasted for 2:34 minutes. A moment charged with intensity and accompanied by Lucas Vidal’s music.

The audience in the hall observed his stillness carefully, taking in a surprise. This moment of calm, unusual for an event of this type, prepared the ground for what would be a deep reflection through dance.

Jesús Carmona continued to analyze the slogan “Let’s keep making it happen,” extrapolating the phrase to his life, his children, his family. A phrase that, he affirmed, “moves him,” because he is aware that some things will no longer happen.

In turn, this reflection on time and life gave way to his danced story, titled The Boy Who Blew the Clouds, which, accompanied by a powerful interpretation, shared its deep message about human emotions, pain, depression, and resilience, concluding with a piece that seeks to emphasize hope in dreams, as well as embracing that previous child.

Presented by FIGHT, the piece became the grand finale of this first day and the audience responded with a unanimous ovation. Let’s keep making it happen.
