APCP Festival: Jesús Carmona will open the APCP Awards

The 2021 National Dance Prize and Benois de la Danse winner will open the awards ceremony with “Some Tale and a Truth,” an exclusive performance created for the occasion.

There are artists who don’t just dance, they transcend. Jesús Carmona is one of them. The dancer and choreographer from Badalona, winner of the 2020 National Dance Prize and the 2021 Benois de la Danse, will open the Gala of the 8th APCP Awards with a unique show: Some Tale and a Truth. A creation conceived exclusively for this edition, where dance becomes a form of thought, the body becomes words, and the stage becomes a space of revelation.

Carmona doesn’t interpret characters: he invokes them. Through his body, flamenco breathes a new era, one that engages with contemporary life without losing the ancestral pulse that sustains it. In this performance, the artist explores the boundaries between fiction and truth. The results will be unveiled to attendees of the major advertising industry event in Valencia.

Trained since the age of seven, and a graduate in Spanish Dance and Flamenco from the Institute of Theatre and Dance in Barcelona, Carmona honed his skills alongside renowned figures such as Antonio Canales, María Magdalena, Manolete, Güito, and Eva Yerbabuena. His time with the National Ballet of Spain, where he reached the rank of Principal Dancer, marked a turning point in his career: he decided to leave the security of the institution to create his own company and bring to life shows that now tour the world, such as Cuna Negra y Blanca, 7 Balcones, Equilibrio, Baile de Bestias, and Súper-viviente.

Recognized with more than a dozen international awards—including two Max Awards and the 2023 Silver Medal of the Community of Madrid—Jesús Carmona is today a global icon of dance. His stage language, poised between passion and introspection, has made him one of the most poetic and groundbreaking voices in contemporary flamenco.

In Some Tale and a Truth, Carmona promises to fuse myth with reality, offering a performance that will be much more than a show: a sensory, symbolic, and emotional experience.

Because there are tales that adorn the soul, and truths that lay it bare. And Jesús Carmona will dance both, with the same passion with which only truth can be danced.
