The variety and versatility of locations have made Alicante the perfect setting for audiovisual productions that shun the commonplace and seek originality. The Mediterranean city has taken off in recent years in attracting filming, whether feature films, series, documentaries and, of course, commercials.
In 2023, the Alicante Film Office, under the Alicante City&Beach Tourist Board, has processed fifty productions, 20 of which have been related to the field of advertising campaigns.
This field finds in Alicante a fertile ground where to carry out any type of production with natural or urban sets that pass with flying colors the requirements of any location scout.
The city has 15 kilometers of coastline with five very different beaches. From the well-known San Juan beach, now adorned with Miami Beach-style lifeguard posts designed by the artist Antonyo Marest, as well as recently remodeled infrastructure for sports and children’s playgrounds, to the urban beach of Postiguet. There are also coves with transparent waters in the Cabo de las Huertas area. The island of Tabarca, a marine reserve with underwater filming possibilities, deserves a special mention, as it is the smallest inhabited island in Spain. In fact, Tabarca has been the chosen location for the latest Giossepo campaign starring Elsa Pataky.
Back in the city, production companies can discover the newly renovated waterfront, lined with palm trees, from where they can see the boats of the Marina Deportiva and the Real Club de Regatas on one side and the famous Explanada de España on the other. At both ends you will find leisure and catering establishments, as well as the buildings of Distrito Digital, with an architecture designed to integrate into the port area on the south side and with the Comandancia Marítima to the north.
Alicante’s streets offer a wide range of possibilities to develop any audiovisual project. The old town, with its colorful houses, the Town Hall square -a baroque palace from the 18th century-, magical corners such as Gabriel Miró square with its centenary ficus trees are just some examples that share space with modern buildings such as the MACA Contemporary Art Museum. The neighborhoods also have their own attractions among their streets and squares, such as the Red Bridge, which has already been immortalized in some commercials.
One of the jewels of Alicante’s heritage is the Castle of Santa Barbara, with its profile of “the face of the Moor”, which received its name after the conquest of Alfonso X in 1243. Located at the top of Mount Benacantil, this fortress overlooks the entire bay of Alicante. This icon of the city has already hosted audiovisual shootings. In the last one it was transformed into Herod’s Castle, played by Antonio Banderas in “Road to Bethlehem”.
Sea and mountain, ancient and modern, tradition and avant-garde. These contrasts, together with Alicante’s unique light, the open and welcoming character of the people of Alicante and its gastronomy, make Alicante the perfect setting for any type of audiovisual production.
