Workers, fighters, artists. The world of cinema is also for women. By telling stories, they are trying to carve out a niche for themselves in a world that is as beautiful as it is difficult. Today we present some of the filmmakers who are triumphing.
The first of our female protagonists, Alauda Ruiz, owner of one of the APCP’s associated production companies, Igloo Films. She will take part in the Advertising Film Production Conference 2022 to be held in Valencia on 29 and 30 September. This director and scriptwriter has made numerous short films. In 2021, Alauda jumped to feature films with “Cinco Lobitos” and she has already finished the shooting of the second one: “Eres tú”. We would also like to highlight the undisputed success of Ana García Rico, who won the CIMA Award at the XXXIV Festival de Cine de L’Alfàs del Pi a few days ago. With the short film “On your Behalf” the filmmaker lived a magical night. Ana won the award for the best short film directed by women. In addition, she won the third prize of the contest. Also, with her first film, Pilar Palomero won us all over. “Las niñas” shows an intimate story that is undoubtedly the story of a generation. A film that connects with the audience and is not to be missed. This filmmaker and writer has won many awards with Las niñas, including 9 nominations and 4 goyas, one of them for best film.Last but not least, Carla Simón is a director and screenwriter who has won many awards for her work. One of the most notorious… the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. She won it with her second feature film “Alcarràs”: a tribute to villages, to agriculture and to a way of life that is disappearing with the passing of time.As we can see, women are also part of the cinema. It is worth noting that half of the projects receiving general aid are by women directors. The amount amounts to 972,814 euros and, according to CIMA (Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media), it is the highest amount ever.
Another piece of news is that the festival of films made by women is returning to Chiclana: “GENERAMMA”. The festival, organised by AAMMA (Andalusian Association of Women in Audiovisual Media), is looking forward to its second edition which will take place from the 7th to the 11th of September in Chiclana. It is a festival that is committed to the talent of women creators in the different branches of the audiovisual sector.
As we have already seen, there are grants and many festivals that support female filmmakers. So if film is your thing, immerse yourself in this world. Cinema is full of people with enthusiasm and women like Ana García Rico, Alauda Ruiz, Pilar Palomero and Carla Simón, among others, have a lot of this. It is clear that he who follows gets it and they are working hard to achieve their dream.
